Being self-employed is hard. You have to deal with customers and clients that aren’t always easy to work with. The trade off: You get to be your own boss.
I’ve spent years working in cubicles, trapped next to annoying co-workers, and I had no choice but to deal with it. Now I haveĀ a choice and the people I work with aren’t co-workers, they are the people that pay my bills.
To them I have to constantly exceed their expectations because there is a big bucket of Eddie Renz’s to choose from. The number of people who do IT work is staggering. I’ve increased my odds by Djing and doing some Marketing, but overall what has made me a success is my willingness to go the extra mile for my clients while wearing a smile.
This is hard for me. I’m an emotional person who sometimes gets upset when a client pushes me to do more with less or to make something different when I think it is perfect. In the end, I normally end up finding that both of us are right and that we just have to work together to make the best of the situation.
If you are self-employed then remember that it is very rare that you will find “The Pefect Customer”, but any customer is better than none at all.

If you poke around the internet you will find a plethora of freelance sites and people offering their services for a set fee. Why? Because the traditional 40 hour work week is a dying breed. There is a lack of loyalty from large corporations and with the rise of internet jobs - bloggers, copy editors, [...]
